In The Most Ugliest Corner Of The Most Beautiful Gallery

(installation)

One of the two installations for ArtPrague 2011. The position of Prague’s largest art trade fair can be considered as a long-term problem. In addition to the elementary question whether contemporary art is for sale, mixed feelings remain after each year’s fair. ArtPrague traditionally takes place in the exceptional functionalist Mánes Gallery, designed by the architect Otakar Novotný and situated at the southern tip of the Slavic island in Prague. The current status of the exhibition hall is in poor condition, which goes both for program and for the construction. This situation is mainly related to the activities of Czech Fine Arts Foundation, which declared itself as the successor organization of Fine Artists Association 1887 – 1956. On this situation, an artist cannot react differently than proactively, or, conversely, to adopt completely ignoring attitude.
